A polite elephant crosses multiple farms on her voyage without damaging a single fence

Hosur Forest Division and Kenneth Anderson Nature Society (www.kans.org.in) have developed a wire rope fence based on the Armstrong fence of Addo National Park that has drastically reduced human-elephant conflict where it has been implemented in the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary. Elephants die accidentally due to road and rail accidents, electrocution, gunshots, falling into open wells, etc., when they venture into farm lands. Hundreds of people are killed and crops and livelihoods are destroyed due to this conflict. Humans as well as elephants are unfortunate victims of this conflict, which is caused by a range of ecological issues.
