Lioness teaches cubs river crossing

Six tiny two-month-old pups are being taught to cross a fast-moving river by the lionesses of this pride of lions in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. We were alarmed and believed it to be quite risky because the cubs may have been swept away and drowned. This was only the second time, according to our guide, that he had seen it.

The lioness is instructing her cubs on the art of crossing a river. She is demonstrating the proper technique and ensuring that her offspring are following her lead. This is a crucial skill for survival in their natural habitat. The lioness is exhibiting her maternal instincts and providing her young with the necessary tools to thrive in the wild. It is a remarkable display of animal behavior and highlights the importance of parental guidance in the animal kingdom. The cubs are attentive and receptive to their mother’s teachings, which will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavors.
