I made the decision to create a Growing UP Cheetahs miniseries. Jesse the Great Cheetah Mother is pictured here. She is a part of the breeding program of the South African Cheetah Experience. I had the opportunity to watch her young cubs breastfeed one season while volunteering there. There was only a brief glimpse of Jesse and her cubs. Three are present. Life, Love, and Leonard.
They were only a few of weeks old and quite weak and defenseless. Some cheetah mothers in the wild lose 90% of their babies before they reach adulthood. This is why achievements like this are so significant. The cheetah is playing the numbers game of extinction as its numbers in the wild are decreasing.
