A fearsome feline predator appeared to show his genial side as he tenderly nuzzled and pawed a young baby𝑏𝑦 impala, formwhatwhaᴛ seemed like an unusual friendship.
An hour later, things took a chilling turn as the leopardess gave in to her naural urges and fatally killed the vulnerable young animal in Greager Kurger National Park, South Africa.
Senior game ranger Reynard Moolman, 26, captured the chilling images that showed how the large feline toyed with its prey for the better part of an hour before a fatal pounce as it tried to escape.

For about an hour, the leopardess oyed at the defenseless calves, circling them, nuzzling them and ouching their heads with their large paws.
The leopardess can be seen baring her large teeth as she puts the young impala’s hoof in her large mouth.
He described seeing the leopardess, Nkanyi, lying on her back in the scrub near the impala early one morning.
Mr. Moolman, who is from Johannesburg, said the leopardess seemed calm and appeared to be enjoying playing with the baby creatureá´›ure.
“Nkanyi seemed to enjoy the game, even walking around the impala,” he said. It was clear that Nkanyi had no intention of ending her marriage any time soon.
“We witnessed some behaviors that I had never witnessed before.”As she pointed, she even seemed to caress the impala, showing minimal aggression toward it.
“The only thing that compares is a large dog playing with a smaller one.”This was obviously not the case.
Reynard Moolman said it was difficult to muster the courage knowing that the impala would not have a happy ending after falling prey to the larger ca.
The photographer said big cats playing with their prey was a common way of honing their renowned hunting skills.
As the leopardess continued to hunt with her prey, a grown impala could be heard calling out in distress.
In the end, the baby𝑏𝑦 impala was killed by leopardess,dess who finally pounced and killed the yocreature afterfᴛer an hourtoyingying wit.h iᴛ
Mr. Moolman said it could have been a case of the leopardess trying to keep the prey away for as long as possible by practicing her skills.
“Cattle of all sizes will caw and “play” with prey in order to gain as much hunting practice and experience as possible.”
He said the baby𝑏𝑦 impeventuallyally trtod á´›o make a bid for fre but buá´› was killed. Meanwhile, an adul female impala, most likely the calf’s mother, could be heard crying nearby.
Mr. Moolman claimed that while I was breaking the news to Wach and Lisen, I was Naure, doing what Naure did.
“We all knew what the outcome of this screaming would be,” he said. We were all a little heartbroken after hearing the fawn’s crying bleas, the adul nearby calling, and the fuile aemps trying to flee.
“Despite the fact that we knew it was wrong and that animals were killed for the sake of others, it was a difficult pill to swallow.”
