Conjoined Twins Abby and Erin Delaney

Abby and Erin Delaney are conjoined twins who made headlines in 2017 when they successfully underwent a separation surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The Delaney twins were born with their heads connected, facing opposite directions, and sharing a portion of their brain.

Before the surgery, the twins were joined at the top of their heads and shared a portion of their brain. Doctors carefully separated the twins’ skulls and the piece of brain that they shared, a process that took 11 hours. After the surgery, the twins needed to undergo several more surgeries and physical therapy to help them heal and learn how to use their bodies independently.

The Delaney twins’ parents, Heather and Riley Delaney, were told that the surgery was risky. However, the parents decided to go ahead with the surgery after consulting with doctors at CHOP. The surgery was a success, and the twins made a full recovery.

The Delaneys have become an inspiration to many. Today, the twins are able to live independent lives. They attend school and participate in activities like soccer and swimming. The twins’ parents are also actively involved in raising awareness about the importance of early intervention for children with medical conditions and disabilities.

The Delaney twins’ story has been featured in numerous media outlets worldwide. In 2018, the twins received the Courage Award from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which recognizes patients and families who have overcome extraordinary challenges and inspired others.
