A remarkable incident recently occurred in the African wilderness which saw a brave and daring crocodile attempt to steal a buffalo from a pride of lions. It happened in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, where a large crocodile was seen silently approaching a pride of eight lions that were feasting on the carcass of a buffalo. The crocodile was clearly hungry and determined to get its share of the meal, and it slowly started to edge closer and closer to the lions.
The lions had their backs to the crocodile and were so engrossed in their feast that they didn’t notice the reptile approaching. But as the crocodile got closer, one of the lions became aware of its presence and roared at it in warning. The crocodile, however, was undeterred by the lion’s warning and kept creeping closer and closer. It was then that the other lions noticed the crocodile and immediately sprang to their feet to protect their meal.
The crocodile, now outnumbered and outmatched, quickly decided that discretion was the better part of valour and retreated back to the safety of the water. The whole incident was captured on camera by a group of tourists who were watching the scene from a safe distance. The daring attempt by the crocodile to steal a buffalo from a pride of lions is a remarkable reminder of the tenacity and courage of the animal kingdom. It also serves to remind us of just how dangerous the African wilderness can be.
