He’s a gorgeous brilliant yellow bird with black wings, back, and red crown, as well as splashes of vibrant red on the breast.
The band-tailed manakin (Pipra fasciicauda) belongs to the Pipridae family of birds. The male Band-tailed Manakin has a vivid red crown that spreads down the back and sides of the neck. The face and rest of the underparts are bright yellow, with the breast and belly displaying varying degrees of red. On the male’s tail is a broad pale band.
The female has an olive-green body with a yellowish throat and belly center.
Both sexes have a pale iris, brown legs, and a square tail that is rather short.
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru are home to this endemic bird.
The band-tailed manakin prefers subtropical or tropical wet lowland forest, subtropical or tropical swamps, and badly degraded former forest as its natural habitat.
