Baby Boom for Nashville Zoo! Kangaroos, cassowaries, and caracals

On May 10, 2020 (Mother’s Day), a caracal gave birth to kittens within her nest box just before midnight. The animal care staff was keeping a careful check on them and wishing their mother a very happy Mother’s Day as they were the first caracals ever to be born at the Nashville Zoo.

The Nashville Zoo is currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of newborn animals, commonly referred to as a “baby boom.” Among the species that have recently given birth are kangaroos, cassowaries, and caracals. This is a positive development for the zoo, as it indicates successful breeding programs and healthy animal populations. The zoo staff is closely monitoring the new arrivals and providing them with the necessary care and attention. Visitors to the zoo are encouraged to observe these adorable and fascinating creatures and learn more about their unique characteristics and behaviors.
