The royal python (also known as ball python) received its name because Egyptian god-kings liked to wear them around their necks 3500 years ago, and it has a tendency to coil itself into a ball if it feels terrified.
The size of the head compared to the body diameter in this case indicates that the snake is morbidly obese.
A python of that size can go for a year without eating, and smaller royal pythons have been seen rejecting food for up to 14 months.
These bites aren’t poisonous, and their jaws aren’t particularly powerful, but their teeth are needle-sharp, and they have an extra row of teeth, similar to a doubled upper jaw.
