As a kid growing up in a rural part of Maryland, we were taught to always notice if one smelled cucumbers in the woods. If you did, it meant copperhead snakes were near by. I don’t know if this is urban legend or not. But, I do recall smelling cucumbers in the woods and finding copperheads.
