A proud mother elephant presents her new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 to the people that helped save her life

Sunday, September 1, 2019, was another momentous day for the Trust, with 14-year-old Loijuk, now a wild living orphan, choosing to return to the Ithumba Stockades to give birth to her first wild-born baby, with elephant nannies Naserian and Ithumbah in tow, protectively shadowing Loijuk and her perfect little calf.

We have named this precious little girl “Lili,” and she has become the 31st baby that we know of born to orphan elephants rescued by the Sheldrick Trust and now living back in the wild. It is so heartening that Loijuk, as with so many other new moms before her, chose to share this special moment with her human family and the dependent Ithumba orphans, so that we might all celebrate this new addition to our extended family together.
