According to scientists, the world’s largest freshwater fish was caught in Cambodge.A local fisherman caught a stingray that weighs 661 pounds and measures 13 feet long. In Khmer, the stingray is known as “Bramy” or “fll mn.”The previous record holder was a catfish caught in Thailand in 2005.

Ml Thn, 42, hiked a massive stingray weighing 661 pounds and measuring 13 feet long, shattering the previous record of a catfish discovered in Thailand in 2005, which weighed 646 pounds.
The stingray, dubbed “Bramy” or “fll mn” in Khmer, became entangled in the Mekong River, which is known for its abundance of large fish.
A team of scientists from the Wonders of Mekong research project helped tag, measure, and weigh the ray before it was released back into the river.

The tag, which blasts an acoustic signal, will allow experts to understand the stingray’s behavior throughout the large river, which runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
For the next year, the device will send tracking data.
The Mekong River is home to several species of giant freshwater fish, but environmental pressures are rising.
Scientists are particularly concerned that a major dam-building program implemented in recent years may be significantly reducing spawning grounds.
