Lions catch 3 buffaloes on the spot.

This thrilling sighting was captured by 62-year-old David Pinkernell, a retired Hewlett Packard employee who enjoys traveling and volunteering for non-profits, while on safari in Chitake Springs, Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe, with his wife Carrie and friends of 40 years (Andrea, Brad, and Leslie).

“Our fantastic guide, Nick Murry, owner of Bushlife Safaris, positioned us in the perfect position to observe a pride of 30 lions fight 300 very thirsty Cape Buffalo charging down to drink from the only water source available for many miles,” David explains to LatestSightings.com. We were standing on the edge of a cliff, alone, with no notion that we were about to witness something incredibly unique!”

“A dramatic back-and-forth combat between the lions and buffaloes happened at the waterhole, with the adults doing their best to rescue the calves, and the buffaloes went back up the hillside after approximately 10 minutes at the waterhole.”

“As the buffalo stampeded up the hillside, the two male lions split up to pursue the injured calves. The two calves who had been rescued by the herd were once again the target, and the two male lions went in after the adult buffaloes were unable to save them this time.”

“My adrenaline was pumping and I became extremely emotional, but this is something that happens in nature on a daily basis.” It’s just that getting film of it is incredibly unusual.”

“Africa Adventure Company has arranged for my wife and me to go on eight safaris. We went to Mana Pools on three of our vacations. We had never seen a lion in our 150 days on safari. We witnessed more than four lions in less than seven minutes on the third day of our safari! It was quite uncommon! Despite the fact that just one was successful”

“We took a major risk visiting during the epidemic, and getting from the United States to Zimbabwe was quite a logistical difficulty, but once we arrived, we basically had the national park to ourselves.” Thank you to our travel agent Mark Nolting from Africa Adventure Company for helping us organize this incredible safari.”
