Young Bear Found Digging Through Trash in California with Severe Mange

Examining the bear, they found she was covered in mange. Skin mites are the root cause of the painful skin disorder mange. She lost all of her hair since her mange had spread to every part of her body.

The helpless bear needs a place to recover and to feel safe. On Christmas Eve, two sympathetic volunteers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife drove the bear, who they named Eve, to FFAWC. FFAWC took good care of the bear in a sanctuary. Due to her severe condition of mange, they had to give their bedding and material choices some thought. They didn’t want to make Eve’s skin even more uncomfortable. Additionally, they had to make sure that the surroundings were as clean as possible because mange is a very contagious condition.
