Muddy Saga to Save Two Elephants
It is an all-too-common situation during a drought: in their quest for water, elephants venture into drying dams. One slip turns into a treacherous situation, as they become hopelessly stuck in the mud. Confronted with slick floors and sticky mud, elephants are unable to propel themselves to stand. Without help, it turns into a death trap.
To everyone involved in rescuing these two elephants, I thank you and salute you all. The amazing conservation work that the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust carries out in Kenya is truly inspirational, and Daphne Sheldrick’s legacy lives on with her Unsung Heroes, continuing to protect and save Africa’s giants. It was a truly moving and uplifting moment to see the elephants saved from the mud and to look back at the people who saved them.
