Only 12.5 cm (4.9 in) long, the pin-tailed manakin (Ilicura militaris) is a small animal. Male adults can be easily recognized by their distinctively colored red fore-crown and rump. They have black wings with green secondary feathers and a white chest that extends from the rump all the way up the throat, right under the bill, on the underside. They have brown-black legs, a forked tail, and yellow-orange eyes.
